Walt Trierweiler, Public Counsel
Walt Trierweiler was re-appointed by the Florida Legislature’s Joint Committee on Public Counsel Oversight for a new 4-year term beginning on March 1, 2025. For the past 51 years, the Office of Public Counsel has served as the statutorily authorized consumer advocate for all investor-owned utility customers in Florida.
Walt served on active duty in the U.S. Army for over 20 years in progressively challenging leadership positions, splitting his time evenly between litigation and operational assignments. After serving in both the Infantry and the JAG Corps, he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel and returned home to Tallahassee with his family.
Prior to his appointment, Walt served as a senior attorney for the Public Service Commission for 8 years, where he litigated a significant number of complex utility rate cases. He holds degrees from Florida State University, Florida State University College of Law, the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Center and School, and the University of Virginia School of Law.
