Walt Trierweiler was appointed by the Florida Legislature’s Joint Committee on Public Counsel Oversight in 2023 to serve the remaining two years of a term. That term expired on February 28, 2025. On February 17, 2025, the Joint Committee approved Mr. Trierweiler for a new 4-year term beginning on March 1, 2025.

Walt Trierweiler served on active duty in the U.S. Army for over 20 years in progressively challenging leadership positions, splitting his time evenly between litigation and operational assignments. After serving in both the Infantry and the JAG Corps, he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel and returned home to Tallahassee with his family. After handling a significant number of utility rate cases as a senior attorney for the Public Service Commission, he was selected by a Joint Legislative Committee to serve as Public Counsel, beginning April 1, 2023. He holds degrees from Florida State University, Florida State University College of Law, the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Center and School, and the University of Virginia School of Law.
